hormones and happiness

The Link between Hormones and Happiness

Hormones… they certainly don’t get much respect at times. What do they have to do with happiness? Actually, hormones play a big role in this feeling. We are wise to learn about what factors they play in this area and what we can do to capitalize on them. At Functional Nutrition Resources in Tulsa, OK, hormone imbalances are a common cause of our client’s primary symptoms. It’s important that we pay attention to their strong role in our overall wellbeing.

How Hormones Work

Hormones are special chemical messengers that control most of the body’s processes. The endocrine glands create these special messengers and our body relies on them to function properly.

How we treat our bodies and the substances we surround ourselves with makes a difference in how these hormones are able to help us. By learning what they do and how we can assist them in doing their job, we will be closer to our goal of happiness.

What Hormones Are Related to Happiness?

There are several hormones that can boost one’s happiness. The main ones include serotonin, oxytocin, and dopamine.

Serotonin has become quite well known in recent times. It is a neurotransmitter, which takes messages from one part of the brain to another. Serotonin is crucial in preventing depression and other mental illnesses. Problems occur when you have either a shortage of this hormone or when it is unable to do its job. and it affects your hormone happiness.

Oxytocin is known as the “love hormone” and has a variety of jobs. These include helping people improve their social skills and minimize fear.

Dopamine is another neurotransmitter, and it is activated when a positive and unexpected circumstance happens. This is why it is known for its role in helping the brain learn about rewards.

Natural Ways to Balance Your Hormones

Hormones need to maintain a fine balance in order to allow you to function at optimum levels. Too much or too little of any hormone will cause short- and long-term problems health-wise. Because our hormone happiness is dependent on this, we are wise to do our best to find a healthy balance for all the hormones in our bodies. This way, we can create an environment that supports feeling good.

Some important ways to keep your hormones in good balance and working order are to get sufficient sleep each night, exercise regularly, and eliminate toxins from your daily life. Minimize stress in your life as much as possible and avoid birth control pills if possible.

Foods to Balance Your Hormones

Food plays an important role in the balance of hormones. There are many foods that you should make a point of eating on a daily basis and many you should strive to avoid.

Foods and nutrients that help your body balance hormones and keep you happy include healthy fats such as those found in coconut oil, avocados, nuts, and wild salmon. Vitamin D is an important supplement, as is magnesium. A sufficient amount of clean proteins should be eaten as well as plenty of vegetables.

Your hormones play an essential role in your feelings of happiness. Keeping them balanced and working for you properly is important in order to ensure feelings of mental wellness. By following the guidelines given to you by our functional medicine practice in Tulsa, OK, you are working towards balancing your hormones to live a life of happiness and satisfaction.

FNR has been a life saver and helped me get my life back. I had suffered from Infertility, IBS, endometriosis for around 10 years it was so bad that I had constant stomach aches bloating etc my symptoms seemed to be progressing. Eventually I started having Thyroid issues felt sluggish, fatigued, brain fog so bad it was sometimes hard to put a sentence together the bad days were far out numbering the days I felt decent it got the point I couldn’t go grocery shopping alone. In early 2022 ended up having the right side of my thyroid removed due to nodules and they also found a micro-carcinoma. I thought once the right side was removed my symptoms would go away I was wrong. My primary physician kept telling me all my labs looked good I kept saying no there is something wrong with me after several attempts of trying and asking and no resolution from my primary I looked elsewhere and found FNR. I started the program in August 2023 and FNR has been a God send they completed the proper testing and found the root cause of my health issues was a leaky gut that had went so long without correction that it had turned into the autoimmune Hashimoto’s. Since beginning the program almost 5 months ago I feel like I have my life back I have energy to live a vital life and these ladies were here every step of the way to help motivate, help with cooking tips for my new lifestyle you name it they are there to help. I am so grateful to you all!

These ladies gave me my life back. I saw a nutritionist before I came here and they did not help me at all. After that first program I was discouraged and felt like I wasted time and money. But then I found FNR and they were wonderful! Not only did they help me through their pro they cared about me each step of the way. I feel better now than I ever have in my life and am able to get off all my medications. I never thought any of this was possible. Highly highly highly recommend!

Working with the ladies at FNR has been the biggest blessing! They truly care about you and your progress on your healing journey and you never feel as though your just another number with them. It was such a relief to find an office that knows what to look for in lab work and know how to treat the problem at the source. The knowledge they provide you with lasts a lifetime of healthy living. When I went for my initial consultation with Heather, I felt like a complete wreck of emotions because I truly felt at my lowest I could have been. Since being in the program for 3 months, I feel like I'm getting my life back. I have so many people telling me that I'm looking so much better and having a personality again. Invest in your health, you will never regret it!

It has taken the guess work out of how to proceed in the future to assure my health will be at its optimum. I have been weaning off a medication that I was taking since 2016 and am taking a holistic approach to my health now, which is exactly what my objective was going into this program.
